Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island is located eight kilometers from Townsville, North Queensland’s largest city. The city is serviced daily by Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jet Star, and is easily accessible from anywhere in Australia.

Just twenty minutes by fast "Cat" across Cleveland Bay from Townsville and you could be in what many consider Paradise. Magnetic Island is a World Heritage Listed Island, within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Although in the Tropics, the Townsville area is in a rain shadow which makes it the sunniest city on the Queensland coast (Magnetic Island averages over 300 days of sunshine per year).

More than half of Magnetic Island's 5,184 hectares is National Park, with Mt.Cook in the centre rising to 497 metres. Huge granite boulders are softened by tall Hoop pines, eucalypt forest and small patches of rainforest.

Where the rocky headlands meet the sea many secluded beaches have been formed, some may only be reached on foot or by boat. There are 24 kms. of walking track through the park with many spectacular lookouts. The National Park is a haven for wildlife, like rock wallabies, possums, koalas and a wide variety of bird-life.

The range of activities available on the Island is both wide and varied. Whether young or old, seeking active pursuits or relaxation, there is a selection for everyone.

The island offers day trips to the barrier reef, horseriding through the bush and along the beach, jet ski tours which circumnavigate the island, 4WD’s and mini moke hire for touring the back streets and exploring the home art galleries of our talented population, sea kayak tours to experience the awe inspring natural habitat and much more.

To really see the Island you need to stay a few days at the very least, laze under a coconut palmon the warm golden sand and relax - then plunge into cool, clear, blue water. Magnetic Island is a stunning backdrop for your wedding photographs and there are a number of picturesque bays and beaches to choose from for your wedding ceremony.

For your ceremony, you have the option of a beach ceremony, with the sand among your toes,or alternatively park like areas which provide shade for your guests, and a stunning ocean backdrop.
